We remember a time twelve years ago when a good friend of ours (shout-out to TS) knew every damn concert happening in Gainesville. And sometime in the autumn of 2001, TS mentioned going to “The Fest” and continued to discuss some amazing after-party in someone’s apartment.
We sort of shrugged.
Maybe it’s a passing thing, who knows in this town?
And here we are today, writing about how no, it happily was not a passing thing. The Fest is here to stay, and the famous after-parties are killer. The people you see downtown and walking University are not in Halloween Costumes. They are ready to rock and enjoy damn good music.
Oh, and you should be ready to enjoy damn good music too.
When we first heard of the Fest 12 years ago, there were only around 60 bands, 4 stages, and 2 days. (Spontaneous “after parties” are not included in the numbers but are such an awesome unofficial-but-official Fest tradition!)
In that time, the Fest has grown exponentially, and we’re grateful it has. The past five Fests have sold out before the annual musical orgy/extravaganza began. The Fest proudly brings in bands from other states and other countries–but what is truly amazing, as is usually the case when talking about music events, are the fans. Fans from Australia, Britain and countless other countries have flocked to indieGainesville to enjoy the Fest. (We don’t need to remind you to be nice guests, right? Cool.)
This year, the Fest brings all these amazing bands.
